A flow wrap packaging machine, also known as a flow pack machine or horizontal flow wrapper, is a type of packaging equipment that automatically wraps products in a continuous flow of film, creating pillow-shaped packages. These machines are ideal for high-speed packaging of various small to medium-sized products, commonly found in the food, bakery, confectionery, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and hardware industries.

Here are the main components of a flow wrap packaging machine:

  • Film unwinder: A roll of plastic film is loaded onto the unwinder, which feeds the film into the machine.
  • Forming tube: The film is shaped into a tube by the forming tube.
  • Product infeed: The product is fed into the open end of the formed tube.
  • Center seal: A heat sealer creates a seal down the center of the film, forming two individual packages.
  • Cross-seal jaws: Heat sealers at the ends of the tube create seals across the film, closing the packages.
  • Cutting blade: A cutting blade cuts the film between the seals, separating the individual packages.
  • Outfeed conveyor: The finished packages are conveyed away from the machine.

Flow wrap packaging machines can be either manual, semi-automatic, or fully automatic. Manual machines require an operator to load the product by hand, while semi-automatic machines may have an automatic product feeder but require an operator to load the film and remove the finished packages. Fully automatic machines are the most efficient and can handle the entire packaging process without operator intervention.
